What’s Important When Choosing a Bed Frame
It’s a fact that you spend a great deal of your life in bed. Whether you are sleeping, ill, relaxing, reading a booking, talking on the telephone or having a meal, the time you spend in your bed adds up over the years. It should make perfect sense that the bed frame you choose can be just as important as the type of bed you choose, the mattress for the bed and many other factors associated with your bed.
There are a variety of sizes to choose from when it comes to bed frames. These sizes include small single bed frames, single bed frames, small double bed frames, double bed frames, large double bed frames, king size bed frames, queen size bed frames, super king size bed frames and continental bed frames. Clearly, it is important when choosing a bed frame to choose the size that coordinates to the size of your bed. The wrong size frame will simply be a no fit that has to be returned to the store.
There are quite a few bed frame brands on the market today. These include Airsprung, Birlea, Breasley, Direct Forest, Dorlux, Dreamworks, Ecofurn, Jay-Be, Joseph Furniture, Julian Bowen, Kyoto, Limelight, Serene, SH Direct, Sleepstyle, Sleepy Valley, Swanglen, Sweet Dreams and Verona. With such a wide choice range, you can set your ideas free to see which brand will best suit your choices in a frame.
Don’t assume that a larger frame will automatically cost more money than a smaller one. Because the top brands make frames in all sorts of materials, the price of your frame will not be based so much on the size but more so the type of material the frame is made out of.
Metal bed frames are the least expensive to purchase and provide a basic bed frame that sits on casters or wheels. These basic frames come in all sizes and only in the king size do they require a center support because of the size of the mattress. Wooden bed frames come in a number of different types that are similar to the metal ones but usually are fashioned with legs. Both of these types of frames are designed with end caps that allow for attachment of a headboard and footboard.
A platform frame is the only type of frame suitable for a waterbed. It is also a great choice for other styles of beds because it completely supports the mattress. Platform frames can have storage draws built into them to make up for not having an under the bed storage area.
What is most important when choosing a bed frame is to get the proper fit, to match your interest with your budget and to choose a frame that will compliment your headboard and footboard if you have them. Not all bed frames are created alike or equal and taking the time to research your preferences can make all the difference in the world when you’re ready to choose the best frame for your bed.
Choosing a Hostess Trolley
A hostess trolley is a portable unit that keeps food hot after it’s been prepared until guests arrive. There are many different types of hostess trolleys that have a variety of price ranges from moderate to somewhat pricey. Although choosing a hostess trolley should be a very personal decision, there are some basic considerations that you can use to help govern the best possible choice for your particular hostess trolley needs.
Space and entertaining may be the biggest criteria to consider. Ask yourself how often you will be entertaining and need to keep warmed food in the hostess trolley. If you are someone who has frequent dinner guests who arrive at different times and you like to prepare food ahead of time to relax when guests start to arrive, you will want a hostess trolley that is durable, fashionable and can stand up to regular and repeated use.
Some of the most sophisticated hostess trolleys have ample space to store food inside and keep it warm until guests are ready to dine. Heated inner shelves are dishwasher safe and can be removed for cleaning when food has been removed. These hostess trolleys are made from many different durable materials including brushed stainless steel and wood. Folding doors and removable dish holders make these trolleys the perfect serving aid for the finest dinner parties you can imagine.
You will need to determine if you have a place for a permanent location for the trolley or if you prefer on that is on wheels and can be stored away when not in use. If you wish to have a storable unit, you will need to search for those that can be moved from one location to another and ensure that you have a storage area where it can be put away when not in use.
Chances are you’ve observed a hostess trolley at a hotel or bed and breakfast establishment. You can have the same type of perfect food delivery every time with your own hostess trolley at home. Variations to consider are smaller versions sometimes referred to as hostess servers. They perform the same function but are not as large as the hostess trolley and great for small living quarters or where there is a considerable space limitation.
Another factor to consider when choosing a hostess trolley is how readily spare or replacement parts can be obtained. Will you have to send for these parts or can they be obtained locally? If the unit needs repair, will you be able to get it serviced at a reasonable price by a local repair person?
Choosing a hostess trolley does not have to be an ordeal. Many gourmet units are available in a variety of wood finishes designed to match existing furniture and not stand out. These finishes include real wood veneers such as black walnut, mahogany, teak, cherry, antique pine and oak. These great units can be used for indoor or outdoor cooking events and you’ll never have to worry about food staying warm or overcooking on a low burner.
Insights Into Interior Design: How Designers Select Wall Hangings – Part I: Choosing Pictures
When interior designers use the term “wall hangings,” they are commonly referring to anything and everything that one may hang on a wall. This can include pictures, photographs, plates, frames, mirrors, sculptures, reliefs and much more besides. London is a fabulous place to choose wall hangings due to the many active artist communities and the strong tradition of professional interior design.
One of the most important elements of wall hangings are pictures. Many interior designers know that pictures are the way to “make a house a home.” However, poor positioning of pictures can easily detract from an otherwise well-planned interior design. This is especially important in smaller London homes or flats. Your interior designer will be able to outline the key points that need to be kept in mind regardless of whether you are hanging a recent family photo or an ancient heirloom. In London, interior designers have a saying, namely that “all pictures should relate to something else in the room.” This means that wall hangings of this type should never look as though they were included by accident. Pictures should be related via either colour or thematic elements to display tables, armchairs, bookshelves or fireplaces – or indeed to architectural features, such as panelling or mouldings, which can often be quite historic and interesting in London residences.
London Interior Designers will often elect not to position wall hangings symmetrically (meaning centred on fireplaces or furniture), since this can make the overall interior design seem a little uninspired or “flat.”
In London, it is important to remember that the weather is often a little rainy and cool. Therefore interior designers often find it desirable to depict slightly brighter images in their selection of wall hangings. It is also important to group pictures that are related to one another. An interior designer will often place a selection of landscapes close to one another, or they will do the same for seascapes or floral pictures. Another approach often used by some of the most prestigious London interior design consultancies is to group images by colour themes or at the very least by styles of frame or mounting.
In the next article in this interior design series, I will discuss in more detail the practicalities of how to install pictures.
Choosing The Right Materials For Your House Redesign
When choosing to redesign the interior or exterior of your house there are a few things to take into consideration. A primary concern for many home-owners is style, what do you want your house to look and feel like? After all, you are investing money into your living space, so you would like it to be aesthetically pleasing and reflect your character and taste. Are you happy with mass produced furnishings or would you prefer custom made furniture? Do you opt for modern features made from plastic or stainless steal, or more traditional styles fashioned in wood? Different textures, materials and visuals have different effects on the human mind, and the right combination of materials can create a fantastic look to the exterior or interior of your house.
Plastic is a very versatile material, it can come in any colour, can be shaped in any way and to various strengths. The material’s greatest positives are it that it is light weight, malleable, waterproof and electric shock proof; however, a big problem with this material is that it is not environmentally friendly as it cannot biodegrade.
Steal can be used to support and carry weight, and so is mainly used for structural purposes. A common steal used within interior design is stainless steal, due to its smart, attractive, shiny surface. This material can also look warm and interesting too, with different decorative versions available. However, it can be a costly material to use, and unfortunately has a larger carbon footprint than wood as it requires more energy to produce and be customised.
Traditionally wood has been used for furniture, window frames, door frames and shutters. Depending on who you commission for your redesign you can often obtain unique designs, bespoke joinery and custom made furniture. Wood can be different in colour and softness, each type having its own pros and cons. A shiny, polished wooden surface can be very aesthetically pleasing and looks more traditional than its plastic counterpart. Certain species of tree produce durable wood which can last thirty years provided it is are cared for properly; so if you are thinking of getting replacement windows but don’t find the uPVC option pleasing to the eye, timber windows may be a better option for you. For the exterior of your house wood can be used for garden furniture and decorations such as roof lanterns, and the use of timber looks natural within a garden setting. However, good care of the wood is essential, as it can be weathered and become victim to parasites such as woodworm.
Whatever combination of materials you choose for your interior or exterior design, make sure you have the right materials for your taste and budget, and speak to an advisor first if you are unsure of anything. Get some advice on how to maintain and care for the materials you use, so that your new features and furnishings remain attractive and look as good as new for as long as possible.
